I'm wondering what should be the first things I do once I have it.
1) jump up & down with excitement
2) ensure it has the latest and greatest firmware which is 1.0.3?
3) get myself some sort of USB stick ( 5 gigs should be enough?)
4) put the usb stick in the KPA and have it format it?
5) download a bunch of profiles from you guys and put them in there? I don't know how to do any of this yet
6) Wonder if I should first plug it into my Adam's A7X's before I connect it to my poweramp/cab?
Ultimately I will be using it with my poweramp and cab but don't know how to connect it.Can I get some pointers from you?
Thank you

1) Legit, watch at your knees
2) Yes, but first go to point 3 and 4, then put the kaos.bin file in the OS Update folder on the USB Stick
3) 5 Gb is about enough for 1.2 Million profiles....
4) yep
5) up to you, dead easy: copy the profiles (.kipr files. do not download them with IE: it changes the extension to .mid) in to the Shared/Rigs folder on the USB, stick it in to the KPA, go to "external storage/import - export/ import, confirm with "ok" when finish and wait for the reboot
6) you can do both: main outs to the A7 and monitor out to the power amp/cab, just disable the cab section going to the Master menu (push master once) and check the "monitor cab. off" case on the second page.Enjoy!!

Can you leave the usb memory stick in the KPA or take it out and lose it? LOL
So the monitor out is mono... it goes to my PA then to 4x12. But there are effects that are in stereo. UGH!
I have (2) 4x12's OR (2) 1x12's ... must I connect the monitor OUT to my mixer----> to stereo PA---> (speakers? Wonder if this needs to be done or just go with a simple mono to 4x12 setup.

To me it always sounds good, you hear the difference, but they are both good.
Monitor out sums in mono.
'till you don't take the KPA around you can leave the usb plugged, I would unplug it for transport in order to avoid the risk of damage.

1. Should you start with a full backup of the unit in case the unit crashes and you have to rebuild it? (serious question, mine arrives tomorrow)
2. So the KPA itself will format any USB thumb drive (does it have to be brand new, UNFORMATTED/USED or can I use one that I'm currently using to transfer files <in Windows 7> from the office? I don't care what is on there now, I just want to know if I can use that to start or should I get a new/unused one?
3. Will the KPA actually create the required directories for me or will I create them manually (with USB stick connected to my W7 laptop)?
4. Is the serial number and firmware version easily identifiable so I know if I have to upgrade and so I can get "certified" on this board and start posting in your "private section"?
5. My plan is to not even consider adding user profiles until I have listened to each stock profile with both of my guitars <killer partscaster strat and great Gibson LP with P90's). I have the master list of included profiles from RBurkhard printed out, is this still up to date? I figure I will cross out the ones that are not working and delete them immediately -- is it easy to delete a profile?
6. Once done with the first pass, backup again. Then learn how to upload profiles and start slow and easy, probably with sheguitarplayer's EVH stuff -- the new VH is kicking and I want to see how these profiles work out. Also the Till's cabs are a must, yes?
7. For monitoring I will be going balanced XLR out to my Adam's first
8. Once I've tested that I will include my audio interface in the setup to see about any tone discrepancies, especially using SPDIF
9. Then I will test direct output for recording dry guitar tracks and monitoring wet guitar at the same time
10. Finally I will connect monitor out to power amp + cab and see how magical that combo is; unless I'm floored with that setup it's back to FRFRCool thread, maybe some more US guys will jump in with thoughts/experiences soon. Hopefully THIS thread can stay on topic without getting ridiculous like some of the other stuff around here.

1- Not a bad idea (I did it as well), even only to have a backup copy of the factory presets
2- You can use an old one but it will erease all data and after formatting you have to use it only for that.
3- The KPA does all, if you have problems, tell me
4- Serial number is written (Very small!!) un a barcode label underneath the unit, FW version numbers appear on the upper right corner of the display during booting
5- the list is only referring to the amp profiles, there are several profiles x amp and several different rigs maded with. In order to delete one, turn the "browse" knob once, push delete and confirm
6- Good choice and yes on tylers cabs, The AFD100 is also killer if you are loocking at those kind of sounds
7- Perfect
8- yep, please report back, spdif is a hot argument here.
9- Good plan, you need to place a loop in "A" in order to do that
10- To do that do not forget to disable the cab on the monitor out (Master menu, 2nd page)Have fun and let us know how you like it!

OH MAN!!! All I can say at the moment is OMG is this thing GREAT!!!
I first hooked it up like you said with the Monitor OUT to my power amp and cabinet and it didn't work. So I thought "well what if I just go out from the main OUT into my power amp" IT WORKED. And it sounds AWESOMELY!!! AND!! its probably the wrong way I should hook it up?? LOL. Can't even fathom it sounding any better.
Cliff has done an excellent job with guitar modelling but I am definately upgrading from "Cliffville" to "Christopheville"!!!

CHYou need to upgrade the FW, in the earlier versions the monitor out was not enabled, forgot about it, sorry. Probably your unit has made a long cruise...

I'm sorry I didn't bother to look at what firmware I had... was tooooo excited to start playing on this thang
I forgot to mention that I was 1 1/2 hours late coming back from lunch
It is NOT a honeymoon type scenario either...I know good feel, tones and musicality when I hear it... just saying. I also want to mention that I had soooo much pent up frustration over my gear sounds... its a HUGE release for me to FINALLY have something that enables me to create. I WILL be selling my AxeII to someone.

Progress has been made. Well, I upgraded my forum status and updated my firmware but still don't hear anything coming out of my cabinets when coming out of the monitor OUT.
It works when coming out of the L main OUT into my PA & cab.

Boot up while holding System down (the all time), you should be fine after it....
- February 12, 2012 at 2:50 PM
Hold down the system button before powering on the KPA. That should hopefully do the trick
